Crime-Fighting waiter fired after stopping carjacking

A waiter who lost his job after saving a woman from a carjacker outside of the 84 Thai Restaurant in Fort Lauderdale where he worked won’t have trouble finding a new one.

Juan Canales wrestled the knife-wielding would-be thief to the ground and held him there, with help from three other men, until police arrived.

When he returned to the restaurant, instead of receiving a hero’s welcome, he was canned. His apparently clueless former boss hinted that he wasn’t crazy about the publicity Canales’ heroics might bring. Oops!

Of course, the story didn’t end there. After word got out, area business owners began extending job offers. Canales, a father of three, said he plans to “jump on the best one.”
