Is your leadership style NFL or NBA?
Sports commentator Mike Pesca, in considering how Adam Silver of the National Basketball Association and Roger Goodell of the National Football League run their leagues, notes that Silver believes in due process for players.
Silver’s style is slower, more deliberative and ultimately more accurate, while Goodell prefers to make “examples” of players who go wrong—or appear to. Although Goodell acts quickly, hitting players with suspensions, in some prominent cases his decisions have been overturned.
The two leaders’ styles, Pesca says, reflect their ownership: many pro basketball team owners are tech billionaires, a little younger and a little more progressive, while NFL owners tend to be old-school.
