Why you need 2 break-room bulletin boards

Does your workplace have one large bulletin board in the break room? Perhaps the note asking “If anyone found a pair of sunglasses, please return them to Deb in accounting” is partially obscuring the required Federal Minimum Wage poster. A covered-up poster is like having no poster at all, and that could lead to citations and fines.

Better go check. Better idea: Set up two bulletin boards: one for official company business; the second for employees to post notices about yard sales, free kittens, school fundraisers and so forth. Prohibit employees from using the company bulletin board.

Include a statement on the employees’ board that management reserves the right to remove inappropriate notices, and specify that religious solicitations, sexually suggestive items, racially offensive items and political postings are prohibited.

Check both boards on a regular basis.
