To give a presentation
Dear Professional:
Now that I’ve dazzled you with my poem, let me tell you a little secret. Six weeks ago, if you’d asked me to get up and speak what you just read, I’d have frozen like Bambi in the headlights.
I’m good with words – writing them, that is. But I’ve never been comfortable talking in front of groups. Even small groups leave me dry-mouthed, stammering and utterly unimpressive. Or at least they used to. Now, I may not be the world’s most dynamic orator, but I know a few tricks to keep myself calm … hold my audience … and make my ideas come across. In short, I can now walk into any spotlight knowing I’ll walk out a winner! And it all started – as every great American story does these days – with a Google search. I was up for a promotion – one that would require a great deal of creativity, product knowledge, and public speaking. As you have already read, I’ve never had a problem coming up with creative ideas. And, having worked for my company for nine years, I knew my product line cold. The public speaking part? Well, two out of three ain’t bad. But for this kind of opportunity, two out of three ain’t enough. I knew I had to master business presentations, so I googled “mastering business presentations.” And what popped up at the top of page 1? A little gem of a book called – wait for it – Mastering Business Presentations.
The most unnerving thing about presentations is that you can go in with winning ideas and still come out a flop – a very public flop. What's really scary is that you can often do a slow-motion flop where every minute you're up there feels like an eternity. Your audience fidgets, your voice squeaks, you stumble over material ... and your fabulous message fizzles. Fact is, though, you never have to risk any of that. EVER. Instead, you can walk into every presentation – big or small - absolutely confident you'll be a hit. That’s because there is a simple set of “Best Practices” – proven ways to research, organize, write and deliver powerful presentations. These tactics have already been audience-tested by legendary speakers like FDR and Abraham Lincoln and by high-profilers like Steve Jobs and Jerry Seinfeld. Now, you can tap into all these Best Practices with Mastering Business Presentations. This amazing guide to public speaking gives you step-by-step guidance for walking into the spotlight prepared. From leading small meetings to giving formal speeches to large crowds, you’ll be confident your presentation is built on: ![]() * Data dynamite – techniques that automatically turn dry statistics into exciting point-makers. * Invisible framework – organizers guaranteed to keep you and your audience focused on key points (no memorization needed!). * Ever-ready stabilizers – methods proven to energize your message as they minimize jitters, “flat notes,” glitches and even audience hostility. . Instead, armed with my newfound knowledge and confidence, I faced this crowd of powerful executives, and delivered a calm, persuasive, and thoroughly professional presentation.
