OSHA, AESC renew petroleum industry safety partnership

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Association of Energy Service Companies have renewed an alliance dedicated to preventing workplace injury and illness in the oil and gas well servicing industry.

The three-year alliance renewal will extend efforts to reduce and prevent exposure to well servicing hazards, and provide training resources for member companies and their employees.

Efforts so far have allowed AESC to provide hazard training, develop hazard alerts on work involving engines and “hot work” such as welding. The group has also helped update OSHA’s Oil and Gas Well Drilling and Servicing e-Tool that identifies common workplace safety hazards and potential remedies.

Alliance programs such as this allow OSHA to team with industry groups to meet stakeholders such as trade and professional organizations, unions and others in high-hazard industries to develop and disseminate workplace safety and health tools and information.
