Ranjana Clark moved her family so she could oversee a new and bigger division after her bank grew through a merger. She traveled a lot and worked insane hours.

Now her throat burned. She found herself short of breath. For the hard-charging executive, this was something new. Her physician suggested that the problem might be stress. He prescribed meditation, time each day to be quiet and reflective.

Hooey, she thought.

Still, Clark started yoga and meditation. Her symptoms went away. That was six years ago, and today, not only does her health seem better but her mind doesn’t race and multitask constantly. “I think that my co-workers and teammates would say I appear to be more present,” she says.

A few quick tips:
  • Before a big meeting, take a few deep breaths and feel the ground under your feet.

  • When you get behind the wheel, take a minute to relax and grow alert.

  • With each sip of a beverage, inhale some quality or essence that you need.
