Maurizio’s Trattoria Italiana, a fine-dining Italian restaurant in Encinitas, California, faces charges it discriminated against a waitress because of her pregnancy. According to a complaint filed with the EEOC, shortly after the waitress told her boss she was pregnant, her hours were reduced.

Then after she gave birth, the restaurant refused to reinstate her to her server position and she was ultimately fired.

Advice: Never reduce a pregnant employee’s hours unless she provides medical certification that she has to work fewer hours.
