Bill would transfer some visa oversight to Agriculture Department
Immigration legislation proposed by a group of conservative House Republicans would strip responsibility for managing the H-2A visa program from the Department of Labor and give it to the Department of Agriculture.
H-2A visas allow foreign agricultural guest workers to stay in the United States for 10 months. A proposed H-2C visa, administered by the Agriculture Department, would be good for 12 months.
Historically, the DOL runs the H2 visa process, working with industry to determine how many visas to issue.
