Use these tips to boost employees’ ability to think critically, for the times you’re not around:

Stop saving them. Even when you know what to do, don’t offer solutions. That’s the only way your employees will become better problem solvers.

Let them experience the messy stuff. When problems occur, bring them into the discussion. Let them witness how you work your way through a challenge, and ask them to weigh in.

Be more transparent. If employees are on a need-to-know basis, they won’t be armed with the information they need to make quick, informed decisions. Be as open as possible, especially about challenges you face.
