Sometimes the difference between getting ahead as an admin instead of just spinning your wheels is a matter of knowing who you are … and being willing to accept yourself as an imperfect machine that isn’t quite finished.

Self-awareness sounds like it’s simply about what we notice about ourselves—the verbal habits, the quirky preferences or even the characteristics we really like. But it’s more about the stock we’re willing to take of what’s going on inside.

The truly self-aware admin is always reconsidering his or her strengths and weaknesses, and takes command of situations with a positive attitude.

Shut off the auto-pilot that guides us through most days and take this quiz to give yourself a hint about your own level of awareness.

This isn’t really a quiz about getting a certain number of answers right or wrong. After grading yourself, you’ll probably notice that self-awareness is hard … and that it has no endpoint.

When you go to work each day, it’s good to have confidence, as long as you realize that it doesn’t come from being a perfect finished product. Embrace the fact that there’s no such thing, and enjoy the ride toward more and more discoveries about who you truly are!
