Senate hearings scheduled on confirmation of NLRB nominee Ring

The Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions was scheduled to hold confirmation hearings March 7 for management-side labor lawyer John Ring to join the National Labor Relations Board.

If confirmed, Ring—currently co-chair of the labor/management practice at the Morgan Lewis law firm—would give Republicans a 3-2 majority on the NLRB.

Senate Democrats promised close questioning to ensure Ring is not encumbered by the kinds of conflicts of interest that plagued NLRB member William Emanuel in February. The NLRB’s inspector general forced the board to overturn a key 2017 joint-employer decision when it discovered Emanuel’s former law firm had an interest in the issue.
