Two high school friends, Jake (a male) and Jensen (a female), were both offered jobs at a pizza shop. When they discussed their pay—something that is allowed under the National Labor Relations Act—they learned Jake was making 25 cents more per hour. Jensen complained and both job offers were rescinded. The EEOC sued on their behalf and they won. (EEOC v. PS Holding LLC)

The lesson: If men and women do the same work, you must pay them equally. The few dollars you’d save won’t be worth the time, expense, attorney fees and bad press you’ll face with a lawsuit.
