The more you treat people like individuals, the more likely they are to follow your lead.

One of the biggest mistakes you can make is failing to understand this principle. It doesn’t take much to make someone feel like a cog in the machine.

Blunders like referring to people by title, role or, God forbid, physical attribute, signal that you don’t see them distinctly. It sets the tone for how your people feel.

Become aware of these habits, and fix them if you find yourself making them. Beyond that, learn what sets each one apart. Diane, Kendall, Buddy, Elroy, and the rest of your team will appreciate your knowing who they really are.
