Tips for marketing this holiday season

We are fully into the holiday season, and it’s a great time to market your products and services through email and social media. Follow this advice to make the most of this festive—and usually profitable—time of year:

Create a production schedule. For the next two months, note the days when you will want to connect with your customers and how often (e.g., Black Friday, Small Business Saturday or Cyber Monday). Then set goals for each of the days, for example, “Send customer appreciation coupons two days before Thanksgiving.”

Don’t make it all holiday, all the time. In November and December, roughly 50% of your promotions should be holiday related. The other half should be regular promotions.

Forget the sales pitch. People are busy right now, and they don’t have the time or patience for another business trying to sell them something. Instead of ramping up your sales talk, create content that will help them through the holiday season. For example, a tire company could share a “Winterize Your Car” checklist or a houseware store could offer a “Tips for Throwing a Dinner Party” article.

Additionally, offer customers a glimpse behind the curtain. Share pictures of your organization’s holiday celebrations or anecdotes of employees’ holiday traditions. Those types of posts humanize your organization and endear you to customers.

Offer exclusive content. It’s the perfect time to offer your customers and followers something special, such as a sneak peek of a product, special discounts or “members-only” events.
