Hands down, your employees are your greatest asset. That means you should be doing everything you can to keep them onboard by providing an engaging and positive work experience—but far too many leaders aren’t.

Be honest, if your employees were asked the following questions, what would their answers say about your leadership?

  • Do you know what’s expected of you at work?
  • Do you know what you are doing well? How about where you need to improve?
  • Do you have everything you need to do your job the right way?
  • Are you given a chance to do what you do best every day?
  • How often have you received recognition or praise in the past week?
  • Do you feel that the work you do is important to the organization’s goals?
  • Do you feel your opinions count to your manager and the organization?
  • Does your supervisor encourage and support your growth and development?

Bottom line: It’s up to you to provide employees with the goals, tools, training and support they need to succeed. More than that, it’s up to you to help them find meaning in their work and to believe that their effort matters and doesn’t go unnoticed. If you don’t, you’ll lose your best and brightest people.
