Monsignor William A. Dombrow faces charges he embezzled more than a half million dollars from the Villa St. Joseph nursing home for retired priests in suburban Philadelphia.

Federal prosecutors have filed four wire fraud charges against Dombrow in a criminal information rather than an indictment, an indication that Dombrow will plead guilty to the charges.

Dombrow was the sole person with access to the home’s finances, and records show he used the money he stole to eat fancy meals, attend concerts and gamble at nearby casinos. In fact, the diocese was alerted by the bank administering the accounts when it spotted suspicious transactions at Harrah’s Casino in Chester.

Note: Always have at least two people review and approve payments from a trust account. Additionally, an outside auditor should review all accounts at least once a year.
