A real nice problem to have

It’s a problem we can all identify with, all right, and not just for billionaire Elon Musk, who spends his days “reimagining the future of transportation.”

What keeps him up at night is not futuristic at all. It’s the overstuffed parking lot outside his office window.

But that daily jam is a sign that things are going very well indeed. Too well, in fact.

Musk’s electric car company, Tesla, has grown so fast in two years that the parking lot at his Palo Alto headquarters is jammed. Some employees arrive hours early just to get a spot, actually sleeping in their cars until the workday starts. Also at the Tesla factory in Fremont, 6,000 workers compete for 4,500 parking spaces, shoehorning their cars in however they can.

“Parking is, like, one of my biggest nightmares,” Musk says.
