Make the most of your one-on-one feedback sessions with employees by following these steps, from Dan Rockwell, https://leadershipfreak.blog:

Celebrate their successes. Ask them to share at least one accomplishment from the previous week. What goals did they hit, tasks did they complete or milestone did they pass?

Don’t undermine their achievements. Instead, acknowledge them by mentioning a positive action you saw them take that led to their success. Example: “Yes, I know how hard you worked with the other teams to resolve the issue quickly!”

Shift to setting performance goals. Your top performers want to continue to improve, so ask them “What is one thing you’d like to improve to ensure your continued success?” Then talk about next steps and what support you can provide.

Agree on one action. The goal is continuous personal development and improvement, so don’t end the discussion without asking employees to take one action that will help them improve their performance. Check in later to confirm that the person follows through and to assess their progress.
