A bill working its way through the House of Representatives would allow private-sector employers to offer comp time in lieu of overtime pay, something only government employers can do now.

H.R. 1180 would amend the Fair Labor Standards Act, which currently forbids offering time off instead of time-and-a-half pay when employees work more than 40 hours in a week.

The bill could be ready for a floor vote as soon as this week.
