Proposed law would ban cellphone use while driving in Minn.
The Minnesota state legislature is considering outlawing virtually all cellphone use behind the wheel. H.F. No. 340 would make it unlawful to use any wireless communication device while driving. The bill would ban:
- Composing, reading or sending electronic messages
- Dialing, answering or talking on a phone or otherwise making a cellular phone call unless the actions could be performed hands-free.
Current state law only bars texting while driving.
Advice: If your employees conduct company business while driving, take this opportunity to review your existing policy on cellphone use. If you do not have a cellphone use policy, now is the time to develop one.
