Even if you’re a young professional, it’s never too early to start creating your network. Here are tips for building a network that will set you up for the future.

Share your knowledge. Don’t think you need to wait until later in your career before you can comment on industry topics. Find your niche and topics you’re interested in, and start participating in the conversation about them on social media and in industry publications.

Build your presence online. Your professional profile should contain more than just your name and job title. Use professional photos, proofread your bio and fill it with information that explains who you are and what you know.

Use social media to connect with people. If you have something to offer or a topic to discuss, people will be willing to meet up for coffee or accept an introductory phone call.

Ask people you know to introduce you. One of the best ways to meet new professionals is through your existing network. Ask friends and colleagues to connect you with influential people. Think of networking as making a lot of friends.
