Summit Brewing in St. Paul is suing its former vice president of sales for providing trade secrets to a direct competitor.
Founded in 1986, Summit is one of the oldest microbreweries in the country. You might think its biggest trade secret would be its recipe, but that’s not the case here.
The brewery alleges the former VP told a rival about propriety sales and marketing strategies and pricing and distribution plans, as well as production goals, growth projections and distributor relationship information.
Note: The term “trade secrets” can have many different meanings. Employers need to explicitly detail what they consider to be trade secrets when crafting noncompete and confidentiality agreements if they want them to hold up in court.
