The Montevideo, Minn. School District has settled an equal pay discrimination suit with the EEOC for $50,000. A female custodial aide had filed a sex discrimination charge alleging that the school district paid her about half of what it paid a male custodian. She alleged they performed substantially the same duties.
The school district settled the dispute through the EEOC’s conciliation process. It agreed to promote the woman to custodian, pay her a custodian’s salary and give her $50,000 in back pay. Additionally, the school district agreed to conduct annual anti-discrimination training.
