Tech Insider’s Chris Weller offers techniques based on cognitive studies to help you learn quicker and more effectively:

Set smaller goals. If you’re learning a large skill like how to speak another language, break it down into smaller tasks. Learn the simple words first, then work your way up. Smaller goals will add up until you’ve mastered the whole skill.

Celebrate mistakes. Mistakes are an essential part of learning. Instead of getting upset when you mess up, get excited. Your brain stores mistakes, so you may be more likely to know it next time.

Make the task exciting. Try to turn the cold, hard facts into something fun. Tie them to something wacky and unique to make learning interesting and memorable.
