How can you identify self-starters? Try these questions during interviews:
When was the last time you needed help at work but couldn’t find someone to help you? What did you do? Self-reliant workers will discuss how they assessed the situation and proactively found a solution on their own.
When did you last learn something—without being directed by a superior—because you wanted to learn? How did it benefit you? Without hesitation, self-starters will share many examples of when they have taken initiative for their own development.
How would you meet ? How would you know you have succeeded? Self-managing people strategize and meet even abstract goals.
