Never say this to your boss

When it comes to communicating with your boss, there are quite a few things you should never say. Cursing, recounting your late-night shenanigans and whining over nothing top the list. However, surprisingly, the No. 1 phrase you should never utter is: “I don’t have time for that.”

No one at work has an abundance of time. When you utter that phrase, you run the risk of sounding frustrated, overwhelmed or, worse, uncooperative.

While you don’t want to immediately say “Yes,” especially when you do have a heavy workload, you reduce the risk of angering your boss if you respond with the following instead: “I will gladly do that. Can we sit down now and see where that should fit in with my other work? I could use your help prioritizing my tasks.”

That shows that you’re willing to take on the assignment, while revealing to your boss that your plate is full.
