The Democratic Party’s 2016 platform, released July 21, calls for “supporting workers through higher wages ... and other investments [to] help rebuild the middle class for the 21st century.” Unveiled before the party’s convention in Philadelphia, the platform calls for:

  • Raising the minimum wage nationwide to $15 per hour
  • Providing all workers with at least 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave and seven days of paid sick leave per year
  • Allowing certification of union representation if a simple majority of employees sign valid authorization cards.
