Employers gain new weapon to protect their trade secrets

President Obama last month signed into law the Defend Trade Secrets Act, which, for the first time, creates a federal civil remedy for theft or misappropriation of an employer’s trade secrets. Previously, such claims were only limited under state law provisions.

Employers can now go into federal court to seek injunctions or damages to protect their trade secrets. Forbes says the passage is the “biggest IP development in years.”
