The number of improper expense report requests—from the surprising to the mundane—shows little sign of decline, says a new survey by Robert Half Management Resources. Only 11% of CFOs say they’ve seen a drop in inappropriate requests in the past few years.

Among some of the strangest reimbursement requests submitted by employees: a side of beef, toilet paper, doggie day spa, taxidermy, dance classes, a 10-cent parking meter charge and somebody else’s salary.

“Ensure your policies are clearly communicated and accessible to all employees,” suggests Tim Hird, executive director of Robert Half. “Take a big-picture view of the program. Is it spelled out completely? Are you using the latest tools available? Removing ambiguity can help reduce the number of problematic requests.”
