Would your employees sell their computer passwords? More hackers are walking into your corporate networks right through the front door by buying passwords from employees. One in five employees say they’d sell their passwords for the right price, according to a new SailPoint Market Pulse survey. The highest percentage willing to sell passwords was in the United States (27%). The lowest: Australia and the Netherlands (12%).

The survey found that 44% would sell their passwords for less than $1,000. Some would sell for less than $100. Beside the ethical concerns, selling passwords may be a violation of privacy and identity theft laws.

Advice: Use two-factor authentication, or biometric authentication. And make clear to staff that password selling will be met with immediate dismissal.
