handle criticismYou are not perfect, and you will hear criticism from time to time. Follow these tips to make it a little easier to take:

  • Remind yourself of your greatness. On at least a daily basis think about your strengths and positive qualities. That way, your confidence won’t be shot when you do hear criticism.
  • Fake strength. Stay calm and put on a confident face—even if you are freaking out inside. Your fake confidence will likely take over, you’ll remain calm, and you won’t make an awkward conversation more awkward.
  • Pay attention. Don’t interrupt by jumping to defend yourself. Instead, listen to what the person is saying.
  • Ask clarifying questions to ensure you understand exactly what changes you need to make.
  • Keep an open mind. The criticism you are hearing—no matter how harsh or ill-delivered—offers you an opportunity to learn, grow and become a better person and employee.

Turn off your ego for a moment, find value in what the other person is saying and be receptive to the person’s ideas.
