New York City district attorneys are claiming the city’s poor records management methods system may cause a risk of cases being dismissed because of an inability to find files. Prosecutors in Staten Island actually use spreadsheets to track their cases because they lack an electronic system. There is only so much room for the more than 15,000 felony and more than 20,000 misdemeanor case files that need to be stored, and DORIS—the acronym for the city’s Department of Records and Information Services—can’t accept or deliver files efficiently.
