Twitter is a great way to connect with customers, build your brand, and promote your products and services. Just make sure you aren’t communicating the wrong message. Follow this advice:

  1. Don’t share your opinions. Especially when it comes to controversial issues, keep your personal thoughts to yourself. You are bound to offend someone and could lose customers as a result.
  2. Don’t bombard people with promotions. 80% of your posts should offer content that people will find interesting. Only 20% of your content should be promotional. If you use Twitter only to promote your product, you are missing the point.
  3. Don’t retweet constantly. It is a great way to gain followers, but if you are just retweeting other people’s content, people won’t pay attention to your original content. Retweet occasionally, but make the bulk of your posts either content you create or find and share.
