Sometimes, technology might be making us less productive, according to Tomer Garzberg at LifeHack. Here are the top five tools that can inadvertently throttle your ability to get things done:

1.  Calendar software: While electronic calendars help people to collaborate on schedules, they can be quite a distraction when it comes to getting those tasks done. Focusing on minor details such as tag colors of events can distract you from finishing the work at hand.

2.  Messaging software: Instant messaging can be beneficial when it comes to quickly sharing information with a co-worker, but it can also be very distracting in the workplace. Only use it when it’s about work-related events.

3.  PowerPoint: Some people spend more time creating presentations than they do learning the information within them. Consider looking for different ways to get your point across, so you can spend more time explaining and less time creating slides.

4.  Smartphones: While most smartphone users insist their gadget improves their productivity, what they don’t realize is that it also hinders it by preventing them from focusing on their work.

5.  Management software: Many companies spend more time trying to get their management software to work than actually benefitting from said software. Instead, worry more about the productivity in the office without the software.
