Motivating employees goes way beyond throwing more money at them. Follow these tips to keep their spirits, morale and motivation high:

•  Let them make important decisions. Allowing them to call the shots in critical situations proves that you have the utmost faith in them.

•  Be as open as possible. Sharing good news with employees is definitely motivating. However, when you talk about challenges and concerns, you build a “We’re in this together” mentality.

•  Ask them to share their knowledge. Offer them a platform to share their advice, tips and experiences with one another. You validate their hard work and recognize their knowledge, while building their confidence in the process.

•  Spread praise around. Establish a process so that co-workers can praise one another. Offer your own praise publicly, and invite upper-level managers to review exceptional work or attend meetings where they, too, can praise the team.
