When you work in a field that involves a lot of communication and collaboration, you can expect plenty of calls from co-workers each day. But if they don’t leave a message or follow up with an email, are you expected to call them back?

You have no obligation to follow up when callers don’t leave a message, says management expert and Ask a Manager columnist Alison Green. If not following up after message-less calls seems to be bothering some of your colleagues, check with your boss to see what she ex­­pects you to do when this happens.
