Tom Raffio, 58, is president and CEO of Northeast Delta Dental. Based in Concord, N.H., the 200-employee company administers dental insurance for organizations and individuals.

Executive Leadership: You’re an avid runner who created a running club at work. What’s it like to run alongside your employees?

Raffio: It creates a wellness culture inside the company. You may see me midday in running shorts and a T-shirt. It sends the signal that it’s OK to run. There’s camaraderie among us when we’re running together. Running is the great equalizer.

EL: Do employees open up to you more as a result?  

Raffio: It’s a great way to get honest feedback from both employees and outside citizens and customers. I learn so much from other runners.
