Try these interview questions. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos is renowned for his questions to job candidates. For starters: “How would you solve problems if you were from Mars?” and “You are Amazon, and Samsung offers you 10,000 Galaxy S3s at a 34% discount. Is that a good deal?”

Sometimes, leaders don’t stand out. Sarah Thomas is the first female official to work full time for the NFL. Asked if she wants to be seen as a pioneer, she says no. “Anyone who officiates football wants to go unnoticed,” she says. “The best game we can work is the one we can leave and nobody even knew we were there.”

— Adapted from “Just My Type,” Dan Patrick, Sports Illustrated.

Keep it simple. Not every leader is going to do great things on a large scale, says leadership microblogger Doug Dickerson, but every leader can do small things on a great scale.
