Lauren McFarran, the National Labor Relations Board’s newest member, wants to dispel a misconception about how the controversial agency’s members work together. “We really do try to get to ‘yes,’” she told attendees at the Society for Human Resource Management’s Employment Law & Legislative Conference on March 24.

The former Senate staff attorney, appointed to the NLRB by President Obama last December, said, “When I worked on Capitol Hill, I might have thought the Republican members of the board sat behind closed doors and tried to figure out how to harm workers. They don’t. Where there are disagreements among us, they arise from sincerely differing perspectives on what the National Labor Relations Act requires.”
