Turn your workforce into a bunch of disengaged zombies who dread every minute they are on the job by committing the following employee engagement sins:

•  Communicate poorly. In order for employees to understand what is expected of them, clearly communicate your vision, goals and strategy. Otherwise, they will make mistakes and miss their targets.

•  Don’t offer growth opportunities. Your employees want to develop their skills and increase their knowledge. If you don’t offer that, they will become bored and indifferent to the work. Invest in training and help them reach their career goals.

•  Allow toxic behaviors to fester. Toxic people are extremely damaging to morale. Establish policies to prevent incivility, address problem employees’ behavior directly and be prepared to fire people who won’t follow the rules.

•  Waste their time. Don’t hold pointless meetings, require employees to complete work you never use or bog them down with red tape and silly policies. Show employees that you value their time, and they will repay you by using it wisely.
