Do your employees jump on assignments with speed and enthusiasm? If you want your team to produce quality work but at a faster pace, follow these tips:

  • Make sure they understand how their speed and responsiveness help the organization. Reward employees who figure out ways to increase flexibility and efficiency. For example, if an employee offers ideas for streamlining a process or eliminating red tape.
  • Explain that they should never sacrifice quality or accuracy standards. However, do give them permission to remove the obstacles that slow them down. In addition, revise policies or procedures that stall progress.
  • Challenge assumptions. Don’t ask how long a task will take; ask why it takes that long.
  • Model the behavior you expect. If you don’t hustle, you can’t expect employees to work at a lightning-fast pace. Make sure that you respond to their questions or concerns quickly, and meet all of your deadlines. Show by your example that a sense of urgency is vital to success.
