Don’t lose hope if you haven’t experienced a “Eureka!” moment when it comes to your next big idea.

According to David Burkus, an assistant professor of management at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Okla., and the author of The Myths of Creativity, the discovery of new ideas doesn’t come to you out of the blue.

Ideas incubate in your subconscious as you go through experiences and work through problems.

While an idea can seem to come out of nowhere, it is actually the result of a long, hard-fought internal thinking process.

Lesson: When the ideas don’t come naturally to you and your team, keep working. Analyze a problem or situation from every angle and bring in new perspectives to help you see the situation in a different way. With enough analysis, the grand idea will eventually come.
