When chronic absenteeism becomes a problem, motivate employees by creating a “hooky day” policy. That way employees won’t need to make excuses or lie about their absences.

Instead, they’ll tell you and their coworkers in advance that they’ll be taking a day off. Employees must agree to make up the missed time by working an extra day or putting in a certain amount of overtime.
