To feel fulfilled and productive at home and in the office, you need a strong work-life balance. Here are some time-tips to help you achieve it:
- Use one calendar. Sync your work and home calendars, or just use one. Seeing everything you have on your plate in one spot allows for optimal planning. Treat all commitments with equal respect.
- Schedule focus time. Plan to work continuously for a set period of time without interruptions. You’ll complete more work and have more time.
- Avoid your smartphone. While you’re working, put your phone away. That reduces social media alerts and personal email distractions allowing you to focus.
- Communicate availability. If you can’t escape emails and calls even when out of the office, manage response expectations. Let coworkers know when they can expect to hear back from you.
- Say “No.” If you can’t fit something in without disrupting your balance, learn to say “No.”
- Prepare at night. Plan for the next day before you turn in. Set out clothes and pack a lunch and your gym bag.
- Sleep enough. Set a bedtime alarm, alerting you when you’ve slept seven to eight hours before it’s time to wake up. That will encourage you to turn in at a reasonable hour and ensure that you get enough sleep.
