Before you confront someone about a behavior that is bothering you, ask yourself:

  1. Will it help? If you have already addressed the problem with the other person and have seen no improvement, it may be time to involve your boss or HR department.
  2. Should I wait until tomorrow? If your emotions are running high, it may be best to sleep on it. However, if you can keep your cool, addressing an issue is always best done sooner rather than later.
  3. What is my solution, and is it realistic? Never complain or point out problems unless you have workable solutions in mind. If your expectations are unreasonable, you’ll just cause more conflict.
