It’s unlikely your boss is going to give you all the info you need to be promoted. She may share some things, but she’ll keep the good stuff to herself, says CareerMeh workplace writer Sophie Lizard. Here’s three things she won’t tell you:

1.  Relationships matter. It’s more important that you have a network built on genuine relationships than an obscure connection to some random bigwig.

2.  She may view your promotion as a grab for her job. If promotions at your company typically require someone else leaves first, discuss other ways to boost yourself without stealing the boss’s role.

3.  She forgot. She’s got other things going on in her life, too, and may not know or remember your career aspirations. Remind her.
