Goodwill Industries will pay $100,000 to settle a long-standing lawsuit for retaliation filed by the EEOC. In the suit, the EEOC charged that Goodwill retaliated against a worker at its Lawton, Okla., store by firing her after she testified on behalf of another Goodwill employee in a federal sex and age discrimination lawsuit.

The lesson: If an employee is participating in a lawsuit filed by a co-worker (or ex-worker), remind supervisors to treat that employee the same as others. Never retaliate.
