Mind-mapping tools can help harness creativity and turn it into concrete action. Try it yourself with one of these tools recommended by Lifehack writer Jane Hurst.

•  XMind: It’s one of the most popular mind-mapping tools available, but a pricey $79 per year for access to extra features. It’s an open source tool and allows you to convert your map to different formats.

•  WiseMapping: An ideal tool for businesses because it’s made for collaboration and it’s free. You can share maps with others and embed them into blog posts.

•  LucidChart: It’s not free, but it’s worth the $8.33 a month cost for an individual account. You can use Google image search, it lets you chat with other users and allows for real-time mapping collaboration.
