Jeff Bezos credits great hiring for Amazon’s growth from a quirky start-up in 1994 to today’s $75 billion retail colossus. Over the years, Bezos told Inc. magazine, he has always asked three questions before hiring anyone:

  1. Will I admire this person? Will he or she be an example to others?
  2. Will this person raise effectiveness of the group? Great hires elevate company performance.
  3. Along what dimensions might this person be a superstar? Bezos seeks people whose personalities, passions and creative interests will strengthen Amazon’s culture.
