Micro-meetings find a home in hotels

Not all meetings take place in large conference centers these days. Intimate meeting spots are popping up in hotels and office buildings, Ryan Rudnansky writes.

One such hotel is Courtyard New Orleans Downtown/Iberville, which introduced six “media pods” in October 2012, and they have since become a real success. Instead of an open lobby, these spaces create a more relaxed atmosphere where families and business partners can have a semi-private space that’s more conducive to work and family time, said Frank Romano, the facility’s general manager.

The pods aren’t completely private, but there’s a clear separation that encourages a middle ground between leisure and productivity. Hotels across the country are touting these sorts of spaces as comfortable, alternative gathering places for workers to hold micro-meetings.
